Description: Collaborative Divorce Attorney and Mediator Serving Northern Virginia (Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, Stafford Counties and the City of Alexandria) and District of Columbia. I have a Collaborative Law and Mediation Practice that helps clients with family law issues reach solutions in a respectful and productive manner that enables the family members to address their needs, construct an out of court settlement, and more forward with their lives. The goal is a creative and quality resolution with minimal emotional cost to the family members. Where possible, there is an attempt to preserve and/or restore positive relations between parties and family members. Services Available Mediation (as a neutral serving both parties), legal representation in settlement negotiations and legal representation using the Collaborative Family Law Process. Once we achieve settlement, I frequently represent a law client in obtaining a no-fault divorce. All of these services offer a more client-centered and more private alternative to litigation in court. Mediation: The clients meet with a neutral party to discuss their family law issues. The mediator facilitates communications and helps the client to work with each other directly to explore options and work towards a settlement. Collaborative Divorce: It is a process outside of court that addresses the legal, financial and emotional needs of families, makes children and family connections a priority, and keeps control over the outcome with the parties. Each client has a separate attorney and a transparent and cooperative process is used to achieve settlement. Lawyer negotiated settlement: Representing a client in drafting/review of a negotiated settlement. Profile Karen Keyes has been practicing family mediation since 1986 and family law since 1991. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 1984 and her Juris Doctor in 1990.
